Cottage Kitchen Renovation Part 1

Hello Peeps! A Little Country House has been hot and heavy in a kitchen reno. We are loving it. We are going to be there for a year..just kidding...We actually got this central/cabinet area done in about 8 days. Next, the breakfast room, then the mudroom..Super excited to get to do it! Carla has a 70's ranch home. We have decided when we are done it will be a charming cottage! A little farmhouse and nostalgia thrown in for good measure. She is the one, with all the really cool, old stuff. The 100 year, old door, turned headboard, etc.. Back to the kitchen...This was very satisfying to do, because the cabinets are from 1979 and they were ready for the graveyard...but, No...let's paint em! We painted cabinets, and then I got crazy and painted the tile back splash too! I will paint your dog if he stands still long enough...and we decided to leave the doors off a block of cabinets, to open up the space and bring it up to date...It is more airy now. Carla has some beautiful dishes and kitchen wares...Now, you can see them and enjoy them, Folks, if you got pretty stuff...use it! I think her and her sweet family are on the way to enjoying a "new" old kitchen......stay tuned for more!

Before we get started.....are you sucking in the 70's here?

I see potential...

It's gonna get worse before it gets better....hang in there...
notice the flourecent light...gotta go!

Hello Baby!!!

Light, Bright, and Delightful....

this is where we left off doors....I am in love with this idea!

the other side..look at all the great stuff...
I want a cup of coffee and a treat, right now!!

Let's have a fiesta with all the fiesta ware!!

New light...yes darling!!

Don't be scared...paint the crap outta your old tile...
it is cheaper than new tile....

who wants to do some dishes...I wouldn't mind standing here

I love this bird! courtesy Jo Elliott, artist

Vintage Door Turned Headboard

I know this has been done a bunch already. Turning an old door into a headboard, but this is a really old door. It is at least 100 years old, and it belonged in the home of my client's great grandparents. So there is some history and nostalgia. This door had been sitting in my client/friend, Carla's barn for the past 30 years. A very "strung out" 6 panel door, lol ! I had hubby pick it up, and we went to work.
I don't know if this is right, but I always bleach and scrub stuff that has been in dirty places for a long time. I have to, it's the OCD in me....So, after a good cleaning, hubby cut some lovely molding to trim out the top, and he made a cleat for back to hang on the wall, so it hangs right over top of mattress. Then, I worked magic with paint and wax..and a little caulk...Caulk, one of my best friends..it is like love, it covers a multitude of sins....and at the end of the process, Here she is!

the beginning

incredible wood grain

after adding top molding. This door was petrified, solid, so no cutting
of the door, we left the width cause it was right for a king bed.

Annie Sloan Old White, with some of my own mix of base color..
to enhance the shabby chippy look...

My client loves red, so we are going with it, this
is custom bedding she had made earlier, I think it
showcases even better with the great headboard!

Coming soon, a kitchen reno for the same gal!
More cream and barn red coming!
Stay Tuned!

Coffee Trunk?

My friend Julie, had this old trunk. It is a family hand-me down and she wanted it painted. It was a yellow-orangey pine. It was begging for a painting! Now, I am having a serious need to keep this thing! It looks so great in front of my sofa! I must find a trunk now, for my coffee table. I haven't had a coffee table in years. I got rid of it when the kids were little, cause my little girl actually cut the inside of her lip, falling on the corner of my old coffee table. We just haven't had one in so long, I forgot that everyone is big enough, not to fall into it now, ha ha ha! I like items that are unconventional too. An old trunk, a cutoff  kitchen table, pallets, etc....I am on the hunt! I may even paint it this same color scheme....We will see! Enjoy your trunk, Julie! I am gonna miss it, lol!

I use a color called Sauna, over a base coat of coco, then light distressing
and half clear-half dark wax

cozy.....
